Artist's Comments

White Charcoal on black Canson paper.

This is a cow\'s pelvis on cloth, though, the cloth area is a combination of the Simi Valley hills in California, USA, and cloth that was really draped.

There really is nothing I can say except... wow. The detail's incredible. Where did you get a cow's pelvis?

When I'm not in my right mind, my left mind gets pretty crowded
Well, that time a teacher friend of mine had it at the college. But, I have lots of bones of my own. My grandfather was an artist in California, and he would take my dad with him out to the different orchards in order to paint the fruit for box and can labels. While they were out there and in the desert areas between, they would do lots of rock hounding and such, collecting fossils and bones too. The rocks they collected included agates and gemstones, which he would make jewelry out of, and the bones they just collected. I have a huge turtle skull, a horse, a cat, a cow with horns, a rodent of some kind....... When my parents stopped living on their own I inherited these bones and I have added one skull to the collection myself. It seems wierd if I really think about it, but I grew up with these, and it kind of feels like I can know the animals through studying their bones and skulls. I also collect butterflies and bugs I find, beautiful branches that have fallen during an ice storm, drift wood, twisty logs, fall leaves, birds' nests that people have found in different ways, no longer able for the birds to use them, eggs I have hollowed out and empty eggs of wild birds, dried berries and gourds and seed pods and pine cones..... I love them. They are beautiful in themselves and they seem like wonderful things to put with the fantasy in my art. Plus, they always make me think of God and how wonderfully he had made this world! If I could I would have souveneers of the ocean, the wind, the rain and the snow in my house all the time, alive and moving! I love them all! I wish that I could be enjoying these things all the time!

Anyway, that is the one bone I myself don'e have!
